FIRST RACE: The final week kicks off with a 32,000 claimer at a mile on the TURF. Top selection is JUGGLES (#1). It’s important when looking at past performances, to understand more than what the running line shows, for example, this one closed ground, everyone can see that, but what’s just as important, is recognizing the MAKEUP of the race, and when we look closely, we realize the winner ended up the lone speed, even flattering that effort with another wire to wire sprint win here last week. Point being, a closing effort last time out, very well could result in a wire to wire win today without the presence of a downright quick runner competing with him early, ESPECIALLY with the added ground, resulting in slower early splits leading to a likely nice final 1/4. Too many handicappers tend to latch on to the most recent performance line, noting the closing effort and subsequently locking into that tactic when looking at the race here today. If Mario can pop the gate from this rail slot, we’re expecting they’ll push for the front end, with a “come and catch me” mindset likely pretty effective against these. We’ll be seeking a wire to wire win with opening splits in the :23/:48 range, giving him a super shot the final ¼ on the stretch out. O’Neill also has OF GOOD REPORT (#3) in here. Following a good effort on February 28th when trying turf route for the first time, the connections decided to remove the chance of being claimed. breaking his maiden in a MSW, and then not eligible to be claimed in several optional claimers, until today that is. No, it’s not the most confident of moves, but there’s a trio of new variables designed to bring out better - Prat takes over, they also add blinkers, now facing the weakest group he’s ever lined up against, all designed to instill confidence TODAY. He’ll likely offer a contrary style to his stablemate, looking to run on late, and between this pair, we’re feeling pretty good with regard to securing this event.
