SECOND RACE: Maiden 32,000 claimers going a mile, and a BAD group. We’ve got this group as a 10,000/12,500 bunch, and remember, understanding the ACTUAL worth of a particular group, in lieu of the listed condition price, is so useful, as next time out, if we know that listed 32,000 price accompanying any of these runners when they return, is inaccurate, it can give us a nice edge over fellow horseplayers. In the end, top selection is DRINK (#5). There are two runners in here, including this top selection, whose connections seems to know what their horse wants, while the lone horses who’ve shown anything going two turns on the main track. Hofmans added group to this one’s game two races ago, and he immediately responded, with two strong back to back efforts going long, while last time out, this guy did not deserve to lose, in front the entire length of the stretch, except right on the wire, and as we remind everyone, always view a nose loss as a nose win, as the effort is too good to consider a loss, and by doing so with this one, we can now consider this one a “winner” facing maidens once again. We’ll also note, to reflect just how in touch Hofmans is with this guy right now, we’ll note that Pedroza went to the stick out of the gate, and that action is almost always a result of words from a trainer, thus, they obviously believe once he gets to the front, he’s a much more confident runner. SUITE ALONSO (#3) is the the other horse who’s shown something already when going two turns, away since December but here’s possibly a good little hint with regard to whether he’s well meant off the time away? Notice they gave him the sprint debut last November, and then stretched him out in the second start off the first try, but today in the comeback, they bypass the sprint, running a mile, facing nothing, with a nice San Luis Rey string of works in place.

Hot / Cold Race Trends: none

Win Contenders (order of preference): 5-3-4

X Out Runners (eliminating on the win end): none

Positive Notes:

4  Ohtani - This is the weakest group he’s yet to face, looking for a confidence boost.

Negative Notes:

2  Lostinthemoment - Drayden sticks around, but that could be as a courtesy to Puype, as this one doesn’t appear to be much, with the drastic drop in only his third lifetime start, likely reaffirming that thought.

TOP PICK: DRINK (#5  7-2 Diaz)
